On the 21st March we took the U15s Swiss team to Strasbourg for the annual Inter-nations Touch tournament. The team was made up of 7 Zug players - Julian, Keane, Arran, Romeo, Matthew, Ben and Louis (honorary Zuger) - 5 from Egg, and 1 from Uri.
We played against Strasbourg, Luxembourg and Belgium.
In the first game we lost to Strasbourg 3-1, but worked on refining the Swiss subbox move. Last year we lost this game 10-1 so it was already a great improvement.
We then won against Luxembourg (twice) and Belgium to set up a final against Strasbourg.
This time we introduced pistons to our defense system, an it sent Strasbourg into a panic! We were 2-2 at half time, and with three minutes to go Louis scored an amazing try to put us 3-2 ahead. Sadly Strasbourg scored two in the last two minutes to win the match.
It was so tough and emotional for the players who did brilliantly against an older and much more experienced team! There were tears (mainly from me as you can imagine ?), but we were all super proud of the effort and skill of the team. This group has real potential to be competitive in Europe and hopefully we can continue to train together over the next 12 months.
