Our U6 to U12 teams travelled to Würenlos for a full day of rugby, with plenty of game time, new experiences and strong performances across every age group.

U6

For many of our U6 players, this was their first away experience with Zug Rugby.

Around 30 children from Zug and Zurich trained together before finishing with a touch rugby game, giving the group a great introduction to the tournament environment.

U8

We fielded two balanced U8 teams, mixing newer players with those who already had experience at this level.

Both teams competed well and picked up wins, with Zug White coming very close to winning the tournament. Most importantly, our newer players gained valuable game time alongside more experienced teammates.

U10

Our U10s also had a large number of players stepping up from U8 and experiencing this level for the first time.

Several matches were extremely close, but the players kept competing, learning and showing good discipline throughout the day. A very positive first tournament and plenty to build on.

U12

With 34 of our 37 players available, U12 brought a slightly different challenge.

We entered two balanced teams and expected to contribute a few players to a third mixed side. When that team received only one player from another club, it effectively became a third Zug team.

That created a logistical headache, but also gave our squad a huge amount of additional game time.

Zug Blue went unbeaten through the pool stages and came very close to reaching the final.

Zug White progressed to a tense final against a physical Lugano/Bellinzona side. The match finished 3–3 at full time, remarkably the same score Blue had managed against Lugano earlier in the day.

Extra time followed, with White eventually finding the decisive score to win 4–3 and finish as U12 tournament winners.

There may not have been a trophy to lift, but the emotion afterwards showed exactly how much it meant.

Plenty to Build On

Across all age groups, the biggest positive was development.

Our newer players gained experience, juniors stepped up, and our more experienced players helped provide structure and leadership around them.

A very strong first tournament of the season and plenty for us to build on.
