Rusty Nuts – Season Highlight at Wankdorf, Bern
On Saturday, 24 October, we reached the highlight of our inaugural season with the veterans' tournament at Wankdorf in Bern. Around 150 veterans took to the pitch and the Rusty Nuts were right in the thick of the action!
In the biting cold, we gave our nuts one last thorough oiling. Although walking upright wasn't quite as smooth after the tournament …
And just like that, our first season is in the books! It's been fantastic to see everyone's passion for rugby reignite, despite a few knocks, bumps and rusty nuts. Phil Woodward also showed on Saturday just what a fantastic coach he is!
What's next?
Several teams have already expressed interest in playing friendly matches next year. And who knows? Perhaps the official FSR Oldies Tournament will even take place in Central Switzerland in 2027!
A huge thank you to Zug Rugby Club, Rugby Club Luzern, the FSR and all the players for making this first season such a success!
For me personally, the best part of this project has been reconnecting with old rugby mates and making new friends along the way. What started back in February with a phone call between Roli from Lucerne and me has brought us all back together on the rugby pitch.
And hopefully, this is just the beginning!
Best rugby regards,
Elio
