U8's playing on their home turf!

U8's playing on their home turf!

HOME TOURNEMANT!!!

Last weekend it was time for our home tournament.

Unfortunately we could only hold it then, which meant only the U8's and U10's could participate, but that did not stop a great day of Rugby under the blue sky of Zug.

It took a lot of volunteers to make this tournament happen and before I write about our U8's I would like to extend a huge thank you to all the parents, brothers, sisters, players from older age groups and family and friends that helped out to make this great day happen. Without your help it would not have been possible, so THANK YOU :).

Now let's dive into our U8's. We were in such a lucky position that we could field 3 teams. Zug Blue; Zug White and Zug Stripes.
After falling short during last years tournament our team was out for revenge. We decided to put the U8's who were present last year all in a team this year to show what they have learned and to see what they can do. And they delivered by winning all 5 games including some hard fought tight games against our friends an rivals Zurich. This meant that Zug kept the cup at home this year and the kids were very proud of that.

Zug white was a mixture between younger and older U8's. It was their first tournament after Bern with only one training session and you could see some nerves showing, similar to the older group last season. They put up great resilliance and fight winning 1 and loosing 4. However two of the games were very narrow losses and on another day this could have gone the other way. It is these games that the kids learn from, pull together and form an even stronger bond between each other.

Zug Stripes and was a team of younger and new players who only recently joined the club. Of course this was a hard ask for them to play against teams with a lot more experience. However despite loosing all games they managed tries in all but one game and pushed all teams to perform. Of course we have much teaching to do for our kids here, but experience only comes from playing games in tournaments and I can not wait to see what they will do in the future.

As two coaches were absent at a coaching course, the job of keeping 26 kids under control fell on the rest of the coaching team. I would therefore like to extend a hugs thank you to the all my coaches you did a great job.

As always I am amazed at what our kids can achieve and how they are progressing week after week. Winning and loosing are part of the game and I can not wait to take on Mulhouse in 1.5 weeks time.

Until then HOPP ZUG!!!
