On Monday, September 11th, Zug Rugby Club hosted a thrilling "Introduction to Rugby" event at the Institut Montana Zugerberg School. This special gathering not only marked the Rugby World Cup's kickoff in France but also introduced rugby to a diverse group of 20 eager participants, aged 7 to 18.
The picturesque backdrop of the Zugerberg and surrounding area added an extra layer of charm to this sunny afternoon event, which turned into a day filled with rugby revelry, camaraderie, and a fair share of memorable moments.
Three enthusiastic coaches from Zug Rugby Club led the way, with Tom Jenden from the U16's, and Thomas Troxler and David Taylor from the U10's, bringing their expertise and passion for rugby to the fore.
The event commenced with a light-hearted introduction to rugby's basic rules, ensuring that everyone was on the same page. With the sun shining brightly, the coaches then led the participants through various drills, focusing on passing, catching, kicking, and tackling. It was a hands-on experience that allowed everyone to taste the thrill of rugby.
The day's highlight was an entertaining game of touch rugby that followed the drills. This friendly match saw some unforgettable moments, including a stunning intercept try by a first-time player and a dramatic last-minute breakaway try scored by a 7-year-old girl. It was proof that rugby's magic knows no age limits.
As the evening sun began to dip, participants gathered for some well-deserved refreshments, snacks, and ice creams. Smiles abounded as new friendships were forged, and rugby bonds were strengthened.
Kudos to Zug Rugby Club's coaches and special thanks to Patrick Orlea, the U10 parent who facilitated the club's connection with the school. A tip of the scrum-cap also goes to Joanne Charles and Silvan Bundi from Institut Montana Zugerberg for their superb organisation.
The event was a testament to Zug Rugby Club's commitment to fostering the love of rugby within the local community. As the Rugby World Cup continues to unfold in France, the club remains determined to keep the rugby spirit alive in Zug, one try, one tackle, and one unforgettable moment at a time.
