On Sunday 12th June Zug held a tournament for the first time at the Herti grass pitches and was rewarded with both fantastic weather and full vocal support from the well travelled U10 parents. We were fortunate to have the services of Cameron Murphy and Ben Woodward two of the Zug U18 squad who have both represented Switzerland at international level to referee our matches.
The Under 10 tournament was well attended by teams from Lugano, Winterthur, Wurenlos, Zurich, Bern, Tagerwillen, Ticino & Geneva. This spread of teams coming from the four corners of Switzerland ensured parents on the sidelines were rewarded with some very entertaining rugby. The Zug team got off to a very good start and the high scoring match against the team from Ticino set the tone for the day's rugby. Two matches stood out for the squad, firstly beating the Lugano team 2-1 in an incredibly hard fought match. Secondly drawing 1-1 with a very strong Geneva side who had come down the night before. These two results coupled with the high try scoring of the Zug U10 squad saw them lifting the trophy.
Over the course of the season, the Zug U10 team have played in 10 different tournaments and visited almost all of Switzerland in the process. As we have reached the end of the season it was time for the coaches to sit down and consider player awards. The standard of play and effort over the season has been exceptionally high ensuring there were no easy decisions to be made. The following players ultimately winning.
