Final Score: 10 Valais - Zug 24

Last Saturday, the Zug U16 team provided an impressive performance in their away match against Valais/Riviera in Monthey. The game was marked by strong teamwork and strong defense, on both sides.

From the opening whistle, Zug displayed their intent to compete and the team’s early pressure paid off when they crossed the try line within the first two minutes of the game. After an excellent attacking run by Alvaro, his off-load to a supporting Hjertonsson allowed him to cross the line for the first try of the match, which was duly converted by Fitzpatrick.

Zug continued to absorb pressure after conceding 3 penalties in quick succession. However, Zug were always looking to attack and Alvaro crossed the line again for Zug in the twelfth minute to make the score 12-0. Fitzpatrick converted to add 2 points more points.

A streaking run down the wing in the 18th minute saw Flintham crash over the line to add another try for Zug. The visitors then spent the last 10 minutes of the half defending in their own 22, with the pressure eventually too much for Zug and Valais/Riviera managed to push over for their first try after 36 minutes of play. Half time saw the team teams take a break with the score at 24-5

The second half saw some heroic defending from Zug to keep the home to out. An excellent debut performance from Devitt showed that Zug have depth in their squad. After 30 minutes of sustained pressure from the home team, a tap penalty allowed Valais/Riviera to sneak over for their second try. The referee called time 6 minutes later, with Zug returning home with the win 24 points to 10

Next week Zug travel back to Lausanne for what could prove to be the toughest game of the season so far. ERL/Morges V Zug 12:00 Stade Lausanne
